I have an Acer Aspire 3000 and when I try to boot it up, it says:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

When I put in the Disk 1 into the system, and press 'r', the computer
appears to reboot and the same message comes up again.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance

Have you changed something in your partitions recently? This sound like
a copy of a Windows partition has been removed from a place Windows
expected it to be.

Boot from a dos disk or some other utilitie that does not boot Windows
and check the lines of your boot.ini file. There probably is something
fishy there.

Lastly, this is more a Windows question than a Laptop question. If you
do not resolve your problem, I suggest posting on the adequate MS Newsgroup.
