I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S229 laptop. It is probably 5 years old. I
have XP Home on it. I use a mouse instead of the built-in device. My
problem is that almost all the time, the built-in device is enabled in spite
of the fact that I have gone into the control panel and disabled it. As a
result, when I am typing, I frequently find that the cursor has left my line
of type area and settled somewhere else due to the fact that the built-in
device is not disabled. Usually I am able to press the fn key and f9 and it
will disable the built-in device. However, sometimes when I do the fn-f9
key it causes a lockup of the right side of the keyboard. e.g., when I
press the letter L nothing happens. I would certainly appreciate a response
from someone who has a fix for this problem. Thank You. (incidentally, I
am typing this on another computer because the keyboard on the laptop is
locked up).

To eliminate the touch pad problem, I scotched taped a piece of
cardboard over it. All most impossible to turn it off.

The keyboard problem might just be accumilationof dust in the board.
Use a blast of compressed air on it and see if that corrects the
problem.

The fn problem sounds like a software issue. Can you reload the
applets for your Toshiba?

I would recommend a total re-install of the original recovery disk.

Good luck.
